Wars are meaningless. Not the deaths.
Battlefields are sacred. They’re more than graveyards. They’re memorials of bravery.
No way of knowing who’s right when the firing stops. Just guesses and estimations – even after victory. But bravery needs no second look.
Visiting Pea Ridge
I found myself at Pea Ridge Battlefield in Arkansas. Looking at cannons but seeing more than relics in a field.
The Civil War was the last of the great wars. Decency. Honor. Respect. Values that bled men dry.
Curses from blessings. Christian fervor flying high. Americans killing their own and praising God. How “civil” it all was!
President Lincoln said afterwards that both sides had prayed but only one could be right. They killed him too.
It’s never about what you think it’s about. But at least they were brave and we can respect that.
I’m at a Civil War battlefield in Pea Ridge, Arkansas today.
What a sight!
We have a duty not only to protect our history, but to understand it as well.
Even our flaws can be useful if understood in the right context.
It’s an honor to stand in a place that has such deep… pic.twitter.com/6Hgb2xq4P7
